Not every breeder makes it onto MyPuppies.co. We screen for the things that matter most: how the puppies are raised, the health of the parents, and how the breeder treats their dogs/puppies.
Here's exactly what our vetting process looks like.
Step 1: Application & Background Check
Every breeder starts with an application. We look at:
- How long they've been breeding
- What breeds they work with
- Where puppies are raised (must be in-home)
- Their approach to health testing
- References from previous buyers
We reject breeders who won't allow visits, can't provide health testing documentation, or won't stand behind a health guarantee. Our standards are about how the dogs are treated and the health commitments behind every litter.
Step 2: Health Testing Verification
This is non-negotiable. We verify that parent dogs have appropriate health clearances for their breed:
- Goldendoodles / Poodles: Hip evaluation, eye exam, cardiac exam, PRA genetic testing
- Bernedoodles: Hip and elbow evaluation, cardiac exam, Von Willebrand's testing, DM testing
- Cavapoos: Cardiac exam (MVD screening), eye exam, hip evaluation, PRA testing
- Samoyeds: Hip evaluation, eye exam, cardiac exam, PRA testing
We ask to see the actual documentation, not just a breeder's word.
Step 3: Home Environment Review
We look for:
- Clean, safe living spaces
- Puppies with access to family interaction
- Proper whelping area
- Exposure to children, and other animals
- Appropriate outdoor space
Step 4: Socialization & Care Standards
We check that the breeder has a structured approach to early socialization:
- Daily handling from birth
- Exposure to different surfaces, sounds, and experiences
- Age-appropriate veterinary care and vaccinations
- Quality nutrition for mothers and puppies
- Temperament assessment
Step 5: Health Guarantee & After-Sale Support
Every breeder on MyPuppies.co must provide:
- A written health guarantee if requested (minimum 1 year)
- Up-to-date vaccinations and a vet health certificate at time of sale
- Willingness to answer buyer questions after the sale
- A conditional take-back policy if the family can no longer care for the dog
Ongoing Standards
Getting listed is just the beginning. We monitor:
- Buyer reviews and feedback
- Any health complaints or concerns
- Continued health testing on breeding dogs
- Responsiveness to buyer inquiries
If a breeder's standards slip too far, they come off the platform.
Why This Matters
Puppy mills and irresponsible breeders cause real harm - to dogs and to families who end up with sick puppies and heartbreak. Our vetting process exists to make sure every family who uses MyPuppies.co can buy with confidence.
When you see a puppy on MyPuppies.co, you know the breeder behind it is a reputable breeder. If you have any other experience than this, we want to hear from you so we can take the appropriate action.
