Hess Family Beautiful Puppies

Who and Where are we?

We are a large family and have been breeding dogs for quite a few years. Tucked away out here in the small town of Russell, Ma just off of Rt 20, we raise the pups. We are not a pet store, we do not have regular hours and neither do we have puppies all the time however we welcome you to give us a call and we will see what we have or what we are planning for in the near future. These pups are in high demand and go quickly.

When can you visit?

We welcome visitors by appointment most times Mon - Sat. however we are closed on Sunday. Our modern whelping setup has a clean and healthy environment and in our ambition to maintain that we ask that you let us know if you have been in contact with any other sick animals before coming in… we may ask you to wear booties and sanitize your hands, or we may choose to meet you somewhere outside depending on the situation. Thanks for your understanding…

About the puppy parents:

We continually monitor our parent dogs health through regular vet checks, keeping all vaccinations up to date and through the use of DNA testing for potential Genetic disorders all which help us to produce health puppies that we can feel good about giving a health guarantee. (See our health guarantee)

About the puppies:

We aim to bring you beautiful and healthy puppies! All puppies will come to you with a doctors health certificate, all shots up to date, a vaccination record and a 2-year genetic health guarantee, unless noted and agreed to otherwise.

What breed puppies do we have?

  • Bernedoodles
  • Goldendoodles
  • Havapoo
  • Poodles

What size puppies do we have?

  • Goldendoodles - Micro, Mini and Mid size
  • Bernedoodles - Mini and Mid size
  • Poodles - Toy, Mini and Moyen size
  • Micro 16-20 pounds are good with children and families, older folks love them, they do just fine in smaller homes or apartments and small yards.
  • The mini-size 20-30 pound are still small enough for most older folks and certainly a great choice for families with children.
  • The Mid size is ideal for larger homes and outdoor spaces, suits avid athletes, and is family-friendly. Both sizes are excellent choices, letting you pick based on personal preference.
  • Moyen 20–30 pound poodles are perfect for those who want a size between standard and mini. This size suits many, making it a great choice for your next poodle.

About the process of adoption

  • Our adoption process is not complicated... We do focus first and foremost on the New England states and local so rather than having an application process we choose to meet personally with you at some point of the adoption. We are happy to use Zoom on the occasion that distance is a problem, however we still hope to meet you when you pick up your puppy or when we bring the puppy to you.
  • We do not ship puppies, we expect you will pick them up or we will bring to you for an additional fee. Sometimes we can plan a meeting place that works for both of us.
  • Keeping the transaction personal is a priority and maintaining the friendship beyond the transaction is important to us.
We look forward to meeting you and finding just the right puppy for you and yours!

Guardian Program Outlined

The guardian program allows us to grow our program and continue to better our breeds, without sacrificing any of our dog’s happiness and need for love and attention. While we want to keep all our dogs with us, we understand that they will be happier with more one on one attention than we can give them.
As a guardian home, you are the permanent home for one of our breeding dogs while they are in our program. Once they are retired (and spayed/neutered at our expense), full ownership transfers to the guardian family and they get to keep the dog forever. Becoming a Guardian Home gives you the opportunity to have one of our premium, hand-picked puppies or young adults as a family pet while he or she remains in our program at minimal up front cost to you. In fact, we do have a sharing program that gives back to you as litters are raised and homed.
By offering the guardian program, we can ensure that our dogs get to live the best possible lives in a loving, caring home where they receive as much one on one attention as possible.
Because of the nature of the program which inherently requires the Guardian Dog coming to us at times, we do ask that you consider the commute to our location in Russell, Ma

What expenses would a Guardian be responsible for?

Guardians are responsible for all “regular” dog care including providing food, treats, toys, etc. They are also responsible for normal vet care that is not breeding related. The dog must be kept up to date on all shots, flea and tick meds, and heartworm meds at the guardian’s expense. Guardians are also required to pay for grooming unless they opt to do it themselves.

Requirements to be a guardian

  • Teach basic commands such as sit, stay, lay-down, “no”, quiet, and leave it as well as how to walk politely on a leash
  • Potty train and crate train the dog by 9 months of age if they are not already
  • Keep the dog as an indoor family pet
  • Keep the dog off the ground where other dogs frequent (dog parks, pet stores, etc.) and away from unknown dogs until the dog is fully vaccinated (around 16 weeks)
  • Be willing and able to socialize the dog with other dogs as well as people
  • Provide adequate exercise and mental stimulation
  • Be able to bring the dog to and from the breeder within 24-36hr notice
  • Guardian Home doodles are pre-named and must be used due to the extensive paperwork and testing protocol done under that name.
  • Must be able to communicate, cooperate, and coordinate with the breeder effectively
  • Contact the breeder in the event of any serious illness or accident
  • You may not be a guardian home for a different breeder (with the same breeds) while participating in our program
  • Fenced in yard is preferred, but not required
  • Understand the issues involved with caring for an intact male or female and be willing to assume those responsibilities

DOES IT CONFUSE OR NEGATIVELY IMPACT THE DOG GOING BACK AND FORTH?

Initially, they may be slightly confused wondering, “Where’s my family going?”, but typically within 1-2 hours they are settled in. We try hard to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible at their “home away from home” by giving them a lot of extra attention. Much of the time they are with us they will be occupied with puppies, and it is amazing how much they will dote on them…
Please take into consideration that you may also play a role in how quickly your dog adjusts. The more relaxed she is, the less stressed out she will be. Humans can project emotions on their dogs, so, if you are crying or acting nervous when leaving your dog, then she will most likely be more stressed.

ARE THERE SPECIFIC GROOMING REQUIREMENTS?

We do not require you to keep a specific groom or cut, but we do require that the dog’s coat is well maintained and does not get matted. This includes regular brushing and grooming.
While the dog is with us, we reserve the right to groom and bathe the dog to ensure cleanliness, especially after whelping.
Our dogs are ambassadors for our breeding program. They should be well maintained as we will likely be taking pictures of them while they’re with us. We also love to receive updated pictures from our guardian families that we can share

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DECIDE I DON’T WANT MY DOG BRED?

Becoming a guardian home for one of our dogs is a huge commitment and a decision that should not be made lightly. Please keep in mind that we are retain full legal ownership of the dog until they are retired from our program and guardians have a legal obligation to follow the contract. Our dogs are very high quality and have been hand selected to benefit and improve our program further.
Becoming a guardian home is not for everyone! Please consider this commitment carefully

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY DOG ISN’T SUITABLE FOR BREEDING?

If your dog is deemed unsuitable for breeding by either us or one of our veterinarians, then the dog will be retired from our program. You will not be required to pay any additional fees beyond the initial that you paid, but you will be required to pay for spay/neuter at your expense. After that, full ownership will transfer over to you.

DOES IT COST TO BECOME A GUARDIAN?

Yes, there is a minimum $500 up front adoption fee. There is also a financial return for each puppy that is homed from one of your Guardian Dog litters.
1. If you have a female Guardian Dog the sharing plan gives you $200 per puppy successfully raised in each litter that she whelped.
2. If you have a male Guardian Dog the sharing plan gives you $50 per puppy successfully raised, that he sired.

WHAT ABOUT TRANSPORTATION?

Guardians are responsible for all transportation to and from us. We recognize this could at times be a challenge and we will do the best possible to work with your schedule.

    Health Guarantee

At HESS FAMILY BEAUTIFUL PUPPIES we put much effort into being a conscientious breeder and commit to the health and well-being of our dogs.

As part of our dedication to responsible breeding practices, we make every effort to breed out any genetic issues that may be common to the breeds we work with. To achieve this, we stay up to date on the latest testing practices and conduct DNA tests on all our dogs. It is important to note that while we take all necessary precautions, no breeder can guarantee the complete absence of health issues in their dogs.

All Puppies will come with a health certificate provided by the Blandford Animal Hospital in Blandford, Ma. We believe in transparency and will always provide any available health information about our dogs to our clients.

    2-YEAR GENETIC HEALTH GUARANTEE:

We offer a 2-Year Health Guarantee against Congenital & Hereditary health issues as well as moderate or severe hip dysplasia, and retinal eye disease. Because poor nutrition is the cause of many health issues, we require that your precious puppy continue with one of our approved foods for the first 26 months of his/her life to qualify for this 2-year health guarantee. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
If you continue with one of our approved foods as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle with adequate exercise and regular doctor health checks and vaccinations for the first 26 months, this dog is guaranteed against life threatening Congenital & Hereditary health issues, moderate or severe hip dysplasia, and retinal eye disease until it is 26 months of age. (The OFA is the sole and only judge in determining hip dysplasia. A CERF certified veterinarian must confirm any hereditary eye defects. The purchaser is to spay or neuter (unless already done) and keep him/her as a companion.)

The buyer(s) shall provide proper nutrition, vet care, shelter and exercise. The pup shall be socialized properly after all immunizations given, to include other people outside the family, other dogs, and strange places. Obedience classes are recommended before the pup is 1yr old.

In the very rare case of sudden death of puppy, the breeder must receive a written notice of the puppy’s death from the owner’s vet, along with a necropsy report indication cause of death. We also reserve the right to acquire a DNA sample from the puppy to determine the dog or puppy as one of our lineages.

This puppy is being purchased as a pet and therefore the following applies:
The original buyer of the dog has the right to a replacement puppy from the next available and comparable litter considering the following criteria have been met:

    • The original buyer must own the puppy.
    • The puppy must not have sired or whelped a litter.
    • The puppy must not have been overfed or overweight.
    • Buyer must provide an OFA diagnosis of hip dysplasia or CERF diagnosis of retinal atrophy, plus x-rays or vision exam results, and spay/neuter proof with dog's details before 26 months.
    • Buyer must have fed this dog one of our approved foods for the first 26 months.

    List of Approved Foods:

    • Raw food from BJ’s Raw in Lancaster, Pa (our #1 Choice)
    • Life’s Abundance Kibble – Puppy or All Life – (our #1 kibble recommendation)
